Alexander Payne, an American director of Greek descent, won the Oscar on Sunday for adapted screenplay for his family drama “The Descendants,” which starred George Clooney playing a land baron trying to reconnect with his two daughters after his wife’s injury in a boating accident.
Payne, who also directed the film and shared the award with co-writers Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, previously won the same award for the 2004 comedy-drama “Sideways.”
