Pharmacies in Athens and Piraeus are not participating in a two-day national strike set to take place on Thursday and Friday it was announced late on Monday. The strike was announced on Monday by the Panhellenic Pharmacists Association in protest at state cuts to spending on pharmaceuticals as well as the liberilzation of the sector. Speaking on Skai on Tuesday, Panhellenic Pharmacists Association president Thodoros Abatzoglou noted the rift between pharmacists in Athens and Pireaus and their colleagues operating in the rest of the country. He also set the agenda for the upcoming strike. Pharmacies, said Abatzoglou, are protesting at the degradation of pharmaceutical care and medicine shortages and are demanding the pay off of debts of the country's social security funds.
