Alternate Interior Minister Fofi Gennimata has been appointed PASOK’s new spokesperson.
Just a few days after being voted the Socialists’ new leader, Evangelos Venizelos made his first major appointment by naming the 48-year-old Gennimata as the party’s media representative.
Gennimata will take over her duties on Monday. She also served as deputy health minister between October 2009 and September 2010. Between September 2010 and November 2011, she was alternate education minister.
Gennimata, the daughter of the late Giorgios Gennimatas a founding member of PASOK, was elected Athens-Piraeus prefect in 2000 and 2006.
Venizelos is expected to make other key party appointments in the coming days.
