Three ministers briefed MPs on Wednesday on what steps Greece is taking to reclaim Second World War damages from Germany, as 38 deputies asked for a committee to be formed to demand reparations.

Foreign Minister Stavros Dimas, Finance Minister Filippos Sachinidis and Justice Minister Miltiadis Papaioannou responded to questions from MPs who sit on three parliamentary committees.

The ministers revealed that no government official has examined the issue of reparations for the last two decades.

Led by independent MP Panayiotis Kouroublis (photo), 38 deputies proposed that a panel of lawmakers pressure Germany over the matter.

According to reported Bank of Greece estimates, the war loan that Greece was forced to provide to the Nazi regime is worth 54 billion euros and the damages have been valued at 108 billion.

In both cases, interest has not been added.
