Police on Thursday said they had arrested a 29-year-old man after an explosion near an Athens police station that shattered windows in the vicinity but caused no injuries. The suspect had thrown a makeshift stick of dynamite at a building near the station in the western Piraeus district of Korydallos at 2.30 a.m., police said. The ensuing blast broke windows at the station’s ground floor and at other neighboring buildings. Officers said the suspect was wearing a balaclava and a pair of gloves. The same police station had been strafed with gunfire in 2009 by a far-left extremist group, Revolutionary Sect. No arrests had been made at the time. [AFP] – Ekathimerini.com
