Officers of the homicide department of the Attica police said on Thursday that they had arrested a 24-year-old Pakistani national believed to belong to a ring of kidnappers who held a teenage compatriot captive until he starved to death.

The ring held the youth in a bid to pressure his family into paying a ransom, according to police who said the relatives paid the 5,500 euros but that the gang dumped the boy’s body on a bench in Aghioi Anargyroi, western Athens, after pressing the family for more money.
