ESEE has collected prices from open-air markets, super markets and the central meat market in Athens, which suggest that prices of both meat and vegetables have dropped slightly since last year.

Despite the lower prices, traders expect their turnover to drop this Easter as a result of the recession.

They expect overall Easter purchases to reach roughly 4.5 billion euros, down from 5 billion last year.
