Doctors at a public hospital in Edessa, northern Greece, are to face disciplinary action and the state will make efforts to recover 1.8 million euros that was spent on alleged excessive purchases of orthopedic equipment, Health Ministry officials said on Wednesday.

An inspection has found that some doctors ordered more equipment than was needed for their patients. Health Minister Andreas Loverdos visited a hospital at Kalamata in the Peloponnese on the same day to follow up allegations of similar overspending there.
