Cyprus’s budget deficit widened to 6.3 percent of gross domestic product last year from 5.3 percent of GDP in 2010, according to an e-mailed statement from the European Union’s statistics agency.

The country’s public debt increased to 71.6 percent of GDP in 2011 from 61.5 percent, Eurostat said Monday in the statement.
