New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie isn't getting weighed down by Jimmy Kimmel's fat jokes about him during Saturday's White House Correspondents' Dinner — and he has his sexy seatmate to thank.
"When you have [Sofia Vergara] next to you to console you, let me tell you, you don't care what the heck Jimmy Kimmel is saying about you," Christie said Monday about the gorgeous "Modern Family" actress.
The late-night comedian ripped into the portly pol several times during the annual D.C. event.
At one point, Kimmel was talking about First Lady Michelle's anti-obesity initiative when he joked, "Look, it's Chris Christie. Get him."
He later called out Christie, jabbing, "You might be misunderstanding the New Jersey state slogan. It's not the Olive Garden State."
The governor said during a press conference that Kimmel's jabs were tame compared to what people say about him on Twitter.
Christie — whose name has been floated as a possible Repubican vice presidential candidate — said he knew he might be targeted when Kimmel started joking about President Obama's weight.
"I figured I was in the zone of danger," he said, adding, "When you're overweight, fair or unfair, there's going to be those who make really awful comments about you and there are going to be people who make jokes about it. That's the way it goes."
