The wife of former Defense Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos, Viki Stamati, who has been in custody since last Friday after defending herself on money-laundering charges, on Wednesday appealed to be released and put under house arrest so that she can be with her 5-year-old son.

The 49-year-old, who has been on hunger strike since Saturday, described her detention as “unfair” and “onerous.”

Stamati’s lawyer, Vassilis Heirdaris, said his client’s son was being cared for by her 73-year-old mother, who has health problems.
