The suspects detained in connection with the theft include a local squadron leader, believed to have played an active role in the racket, the manager of the squadron’s fuel reserves on the island and a fuel truck driver, sources revealed.

A private truck that allegedly belongs to an island-based contractor was spotted tanking up with two tons of fuels from the squadron’s reserves, Skai understands.

Defense Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos and the country’s military chiefs have been briefed about the racket which, according to SDOE, had been destined for delivery to a a public works contractor.
