A small earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale gave residents of southeastern Crete a fright shortly before midnight on Monday.

According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center, the epicenter of the quake was 3 kilometers north of Ierapetra and 65 kilometers southeast of Iraklio, while it had been preceded by a handful of small tremors.

Another quake, measuring 4.3 Richter, shook the region of Achaia, in the northern Peloponnese, earlier in the day.
