An internal inquiry that was launched in April into 1,200 cases of suspected benefit fraud on the Ionian island of Zakynthos has so far revealed 682 cases that merit further investigation, Skai reported on Thursday.

Launched on the orders of a Zakynthos prosecutor, the inquiry found that the cases of at least 682 people among 1,200 who have claimed benefits for the blind since 1988 need to be examined more closely in order to ascertain the level of involvement of corrupt civil servants in procuring false benefits.
