Chief first instance prosecutor Eleni Raikou has ordered a preliminary investigation into comments made by leftist Ifikratis Amyras in which he urges Greeks to conduct an “armed struggle” against their government and the troika. Speaking to Skai TV on Monday Amyras, said that he was not a member of SYRIZA but had put himself forward as a parliamentary candidate although his bid was rejected by the leftist party. Amyras’s role was questioned by New Democracy over the weekend after two videos emerged: one showing him interviewing SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras during the Indignant protests last summer and another showing Amyras on his own, calling on small groups of people to use “Molotov cocktails, knives and clubs” against the “forces of occupation”. SYRIZA denied any connection to Amyras, who told Skai TV that he is not a member of any party although he did hold discussions with a number of people last summer.

The investigation into his comments will be carried out by first instance prosecutor Yiannis Dragatis, who is due to call ND spokesman Yiannis Michelakis as the first witness on Tuesday morning.
