Greece’s main defense fair has been scrapped amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the debt-hit country’s place in the eurozone ahead of critical elections, organizers said Wednesday.
Early expressions of interest “did not turn into actual reservations,” Dimitris Bakatselos, head of the chamber of commerce in the city of Thessaloniki, which hosts the fair, told the state-run Athens News Agency.
A statement from the Defensys fair added, “In the interests of safeguarding the status of the fair [the organizing committee] has decided to postpone it.” Over 150 companies had expressed an interest in participating in the biannual fair, which was to be held in late October, ANA said.
A new date is expected to be set for 2013. [AFP] - Ekathimerini.com
