A police officers’ union in the northern region of Kozani on Monday brought legal action against Communist Party MP Liana Kanelli after she referred to certain officers as “fascist scum” during a recent televised political debate.
“We will not accept being vilified and offended. We are neither fascists nor scum,” said the union’s president, Athanasios Glavinas.
KKE’s office responded by describing the legal suit as “a politically motivated act with motives that raise certain questions.”
Kanelli was sued earlier this month by the spokesman of the extreme-right Chrysi Avgi (Golden Dawn) party for “unprovoked verbal abuses.”
Ilias Kasidiaris had hit Kanelli, and thrown water over another leftist deputy, during a televised panel discussion.
