Reacting to an article quoting a study for Greece’s troika of lenders, KEDE said that figures showing 12,000 more people were employed at local authorities in 2012 than in 2010 were a case of “creative accounting.” It said 11,530 employees were transferred to municipalities last year as part of the Kallikratis local government overhaul, taking the total staff members to 89,111. However, KEDE said this had dropped to 83,549 by the beginning of this year, meaning that 5,562 employees had left.
