The leader of the right-wing Independent Greeks, Panos Kammenos, has said he plans to ask Parliament to set up an inquiry into how Greece ended up resorting to an EU-IMF bailout in 2010 to prevent a default.
Kammenos, whose party won 7.5 percent of the vote in the June 17 elections, suggested that Greece’s fiscal statistics had been altered to justify the loan agreement and that some members of the government sought to profit personally from the country’s economic problems.
The former New Democracy MP said he would also pressure the conservatives to keep to their pre-election promise of scrapping a law granting Greeks citizenship to some second generation immigrants.
