Mutiny off southern coast of Crete

Cretan coast guard officers were called in the early hours of Monday to rescue three Italian fishermen who were forcibly ejected from their boat by their own crew.

The crew of the Italian-flagged vessel -- which comprised two Egyptians and a Tunisian -- allegedly commandeered the fishing boat off the coast of island of Gavdos, south of Crete, and forced the three Italians onto a rubber dingy, casting them adrift.

One of the three men used his mobile phone to call the Italian coast guard, which, in turn, alerted local authorities to their predicament.

All three sailors were unharmed during their ordeal, while authorities were trying to locate the commandeered vessel.
