Greece's Foreign Ministry has advised Greeks against traveling to Syria 'for any reason whatsoever' after fighting in the war-torn country intensified following the deaths of three top regime officials in a suspected suicide attack.

'Due to the rapid deterioration of the security situation in Syria and the spread of clashes and suicide attacks in Damascus, the Foreign Ministry asks that Greeks not to travel to Syria for any reason whatsoever,' the ministry said in a statement posted on its website.

'Greek citizens working in Syria are asked to take all possible precautions and stay in contact with the Greek Embassy in Damascus,' the statement added.
