Fixed-track transport ticket sales drop by 24 percent

Ticket sales on Athens’s fixed-track public transport system fell 24 percent in the first half of this year compared to the same period in 2011, according to figures released on Thursday by operator STASY.

The public company responsible for managing the metro, tram and electric railway attributes the decline to passengers limiting their journeys due to the economic crisis and more people fare-dodging.

STASY was particularly disappointed by the 17.5 percent drop in ticket sales on the Kifissia-Piraeus electric railway (ISAP), as this is the first year the service has been running properly following two years of engineering works.
