Vyron Polydoras, the conservative New Democracy MP who served as Parliament Speaker for just one day following the inconclusive May 6 elections, on Wednesday condemned reports that he appointed his daughter as an employee in his office. In comments published by the Zougla.gr news website, Polydoras condemned critical press reports about the appointment, claiming that they constituted a premeditated attempt to undermine his political influence.

Polydoras was quoted as saying that he had done nothing illegal and that Greek law actually entitled him to appoint six employees while he had appointed only one, albeit his daughter. The conservative MP noted that his daughter had worked in his office when he had served as public order minister in 2006 and 2007.
