Local officials from Greece and Germany agreed on Saturday to begin working together following an offer from the German side to provide technical expertise to Greek municipalities.

The Mayor of Kavala, Costas Simitsis, and Roger Kehle, the vice president of the association of German municipalities and head of the union of municipalities in Baden-Wurttemberg, met in northern Greece on Saturday and agreed to move forward with the transfer of know-how. Simitsis, who is also the president of the union of municipalities of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, said that the cooperation would focus on waste and water management, as well as alternative forms of tourism.

Kehle said a pilot program would begin in October, with German experts coming to Greece for indefinite periods of time.
