The unions are protesting a series of new measures promoted by the government. Fixed-track public transport staff are opposing increases in ticket prices and have suggested the price of tickets to drop to 1 euro as well as free transport for the unemployed, students and those on low pensions.
Meanwhile, the country’s two largest unions, GSEE and ADEDY are set to hold a 24-hour general strike on Wednesday, September 26. Both unions are organizing a rally at Pedion tou Areos park in central Athens at 11 a.m. on the same day.
