Slippery road, excess speed blamed for fatal crash

A coach accident that occurred early on Friday near Nea Moudania in northern Greece, killing four Russian tourists, appears to have been caused by a slippery road surface, combined with excessive speed and a lack of adequate street lighting, according to police.

The coach, which had been en route to Thessaloniki international airport from Halkidiki, skidded a long distance after veering off the road and overturning, according to witnesses.

Another 20 passengers, all Russians, were injured and taken to hospital for treatment, most for cuts and scratches.

Two underwent surgery and one remained in intensive care on Friday night.
