Skaramangas shipyard workers' trial postponed until October 18

The trial of the 12 Skaramangas shipyard workers who were arrested when they broke into the grounds of the Defense Ministry during a protest last week is to take place on October 18.
The workers appeared in court on Monday but their lawyers asked for a postponement so that police officers on duty at the time of the incident could be called to give evidence.

The 12 workers, who were part of a bigger group protesting the failure to pay their wages over the last 6 months, face a range of charges that include resisting authority and causing unprovoked damage.

One of the riot police officers who attempted to force the protesting workers to leave the grounds of the Defense Ministry, where the Greek armed forces' headquarters are also located, has been suspended from duty after being caught on camera hitting one of the demonstrators over the head with the handle of his baton.
