Anti-fascist protesters claim police torture

Fifteen leftist protesters arrested in Athens during a clash with supporters of the far-right party Golden Dawn were tortured by Athens police officers, their lawyer has claimed in comments to the Guardian.

Several of the protesters arrested after a rally on September 30 told the British newspaper that police slapped them, spat on them, burned their arms with cigarettes and kept them awake all night by shining torches and lasers in their eyes.

Dimitris Katsaris, a lawyer for four of the protesters, claimed his clients had suffered Abu Ghraib-style humiliation, referring to the detention center where Iraqi detainees were tortured by US soldiers.
