Kambouroglou said to have died from natural causes

Vlassis Kambouroglou, a Greek businessman accused of being part of the bribery and money-laundering network involving former Defense Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos, died of natural causes, authorities in Jakarta said on Tuesday.

Kambouroglou was found dead in his hotel room on Saturday.

He had been taking pills for heart and blood sugar problems.

Kambouroglou was the head of Drumilan International, which was involved in the sale of a Russian-made TOR-M1 missile system (photo) to Greece when Tsochatzopoulos was minister.

Tsochatzopoulos’s cousin, Nikos Zigras, a key suspect in the graft case, claimed during questioning by prosecutors earlier this year that Kambouroglou was involved in bribing the ex-minister.

A 2004 parliamentary inquiry questioned Kambouroglou but did not charge him.
