Police said that a Kalashnikov assault rifle was used in the attack and that a bullet was found in the office used by Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, who has been New Democracy’s leader since 2009.
The party’s headquarters are located on Syngrou Avenue in southern Athens and police found a burnt out car a few kilometres away that they believe is linked to the attack.
“Democracy, New Democracy and the Prime Minister cannot be terrorized,” said ND party secretary Manolis Kefaloyiannis.
The attack came a day after assailants set off an incendiary device at the home of government spokesman Simos Kedikoglou’s brother. Several New Democracy and PASOK offices around Athens were also firebombed over the weekend.
