Tsochatzopoulos, 18 others, face trial for kickbacks

The Athens Council of Appeals Court Judges on Friday indicted to trial former Defense Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos and another 18 people alleged to have taken kickbacks from military procurement deals that were signed during the ex minister's time in power.

The 20 defendants, who include Tsochatzopoulos' wife Viki Stamati, his sister Areti Tsochatzopoulou and his first cousin and one-time confidant Nikos Zigras, are to stand trial on charges of money laundering. Several former associates and alleged representatives of offshore firms that have been linked to a money laundering network implicating the former minister will also be tried.

A trial date has yet to be set.
