Two suspected people smugglers, both Greek nationals, were detained in the early hours of Wednesday after being pursued by Coast Guard vessels, authorities said.

The smuggling vessel, which was spotted leaving the coast of neighboring Turkey, was first chased by a Turkish patrol boat before entering Greek waters when it was pursued by a Greek Coast Guard vessel near the island of Symi, in the Dodecanese.

The two smugglers were arrested and the would-be migrants aboard the vessel were detained, Coast Guard authorities said without determining the ethnic origin of the migrants.
