PM Samaras in Helsinki for two-day visit

Prime Minister Antonis Samaras is leaving on an official two-day visit to Finland on Thursday.

The conservative leader of Greece's coalition government is scheduled to meet with his Finnish counterpart Jyrki Katainen in Helsinki on Thursday, before attending an economic conference on Friday.

A statement from the prime minister's office in Athens said the two men will discuss issues related to unemployment, economic growth and a European banking union. No more details were made available.

The Friday conference will also be attended by Latvian Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis and Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny.

Samaras's trip to Finland comes a day after the International Monetary Fund acknowledged that it made “notable failures” in the Greek bailout, underestimating how much the austerity measures it pushed would pinch the country's already faltering economy.
