The central committee of Synaspismos, the main party within the coalition that forms SYRIZA, is due to meet on Sunday to decide on whether to disband as part of a process to provide the leftist group with organizational and ideological unity.

If the party, which was formed in 1991, approves the decision to wind itself up, its members and assets will pass over to SYRIZA.

After this, opposition leader Alexis Tsipras will chair a SYRIZA congress slated for July 10 to 14 that will lead to the coalition, a grouping of leftist movements, gaining a single identity.

Tsipras will deliver the closing speech on Sunday.
