Twenty-five people have been arrested in recent days in central and northern Greece as part of a large-scale police operation to smash a drug-dealing ring that is believed to have imported narcotics from Albania, Turkey and Bulgaria and distributed them to various parts of the country, including correctional facilities.

Seventy police and narcotics officers were involved in the crackdown, which revealed that of the 25 people arrested, three were running the operation – two Bulgarians, one of whom is currently in prison, and a Greek.

The gang is believed to have sold at least 18 kilograms of uncut heroin, corresponding to a street value of more than 2 million euros.
