Expert questions interim ERT plan

Law professor Nikos Alivizatos warned Tuesday that plans to create an interim public broadcaster after last month’s closure of ERT could be unconstitutional.

The Athens University academic was appearing before a parliamentary panel assessing the government’s plans for some 2,000 people to be employed at a broadcaster that will operate until a new service is created. “The provisions for the transitional period may lead to the legislation being blown sky high," he said.

Deputy Culture Minister Minister Pantelis Kapsis presented ERT employees on Monday night with government plans for compensation for some 2,500 who would lose their jobs immediately.
