Two 30-year-olds suspected of being members of the Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire urban guerilla group were remanded in custody on Wednesday. The suspects had been recently arrested in Thessaloniki, northern Greece.

The two men, who faced a local magistrate on Wedneday, denied all charges against them. These included participating in a criminal organization, attempted murder and being in possession of explosives.

Police had arrested one of the suspects after finding his fingerprints on a discarded hand-written declaration claiming responsibility for a booby-trapped envelope sent to the former head of the country’s anti-terrorism unit.

Police believe that the two suspects are responsible for bombing cars of the Korydallos Prison governor and of a jail guard in Nafplio, among other attacks. They had been under police surveillance since early June.
