ERT union calls for referendum on new broadcaster

Greece’s Parliament ratified a bill on the creation of a new public television and radio broadcaster, dubbed NERIT, to replace former broadcasting agency ERT, the union representing the sacked workers called for a referendum on the legislation.

The move, POSPERT said in a statement on Saturday, was necessary so that the proposed legislation “can be rejected by the Greek people who now have a right and an obligation to resist, by any possible means, the economic violence exercised against them and to abolish the aberration that is the memorandum.”

The bill on NERIT, scheduled to go on air in the fall, was approved with 155 votes in the 300-member assembly on Friday.
