The City of Athens is looking for new facilities in which to house the growing number of homeless people in the capital, the municipality has informed Parliament.

Responding to a question from New Democracy MP Fotini Pipili regarding homeless people gathering outside Monastiraki metro station, the City of Athens said it was aware of the problem and has been trying to find shelter for these people.

The Athens-based Klimaka estimates that the number of people without shelter in Greece has increased by 25-30 percent since 2009 with unofficial estimates putting their number close to 20,000 nationwide.
