Education Minister Constantinos Arvanitopoulos is to meet members of the Federation of Secondary Schoolteachers (OLME) on Thursday in a bid to avert a strike when schools reopen in September.

OLME is protesting the decision to place thousands of educators in the public sector mobility scheme with the aim of meeting Greece’s bailout targets.

The union says that there will be 16,000 fewer teachers at Greek schools this year compared to last year as a result of the changes.
