Employees of a hospital on the eastern Aegean island of Samos have been indicted to appear before a court of first instance prosecutor for trying to avert a voluntary blood donation initiative organized in April by the ultra-right Golden Dawn.

Members of the hospital workers’ union said they blocked the drive in response to a call by nationwide unions to public hospitals not to allow planned blood donation campaigns by the «Nazi, racist Golden Dawn» which target «only Greeks.»

According to sources, workers blame the Samos hospital’s management as well as authorities on the island for their indictment. «Instead of opposing those who organize celebrations of racism that are presented as blood donations, they take legal action against those defending the real spirit of voluntary blood donation,» the workers said in a statement.

It is unclear what charges the hospital staff face.
