Employees of the state mining firm Larco staged a symbolic occupation of a bridge in the northern city of Kozani on Friday, protesting the government’s plans to liquidate the firm, along with another two loss-making state companies as part of economic reforms imposed by the country’s foreign creditors.

Dozens of workers gathered at the bridge, backed with several MPs and local authority officials, to underline their opposition to the plans.

In a statement, the workers condemned the government for «selling out» the wealth of the Greek people and pointed to the impact of further layoffs on an already skyrocketing unemployment rate.
