SYRIZA’s Alexis Tsipras is due to make an official trip to Moscow in October, it emerged Tuesday, after the leftist leader met in Athens with Russia’s highest-ranking female politician.

Tsipras met Valentina Matviyenko, the chairwoman of Russia’s Federation Council, a day after she held talks with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras.

Tsipras reportedly told Matviyenko his party is against the idea of privatizing public companies despite the visiting politician’s claim that Russian firms are interested in investing in Greece.

He said SYRIZA would be open to the idea of the Greek state creating synergies with investors.
