A 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck central Greece some 59 kilometers (36 miles) west of Athens early Friday, the Athens Observatory said, with no immediate reports of damages.

The epicenter of the quake, described as "mild," was in the Gulf of Corinth, about 24 kilometers (14 miles) southwest of the city of Thebes, the Observatory said.

The quake was recorded at 5.05 a.m. local time (0205 GMT) and according to the state-run Athens-Macedonia News Agency, tremors were also felt in the Greek capital.
