Figures from the Regional Yearbook published by Eurostat showed that the poverty risk in Greece is well above the European Union average of 24.3 percent. Greece has since suffered another two years of recession.
However, Greece was in better shape than its Balkan neighbor Bulgaria and Romania, which came in at 49.1 and 40.3 percent respectively.
The lowest rate was scored in the Netherlands at 15.7 percent, data showed.
According to Eurostat, being at risk of poverty and social exclusion means having a disposable income that is below the threshold of 60 percent of the national average disposable income, being severely materially deprived or living in a household with very low work intensity.
