Prime Minister and ruling PASOK party leader George Papandreou held bilateral meetings with presidents of socialist parties on the sidelines of the Party of European Socialists (PES) leaders' summit at the Zappion Mansion.

According to reports, the issues discussed during the contacts concerned the Socialist International, the economic crisis and European developments, as well as problems that have appeared with the wave of refugees from North Africa.

Papandreou met with Attila Mesterhazy, president of MSZP (Hungary), Pierluigi Bersani, president of PD (Italy), Sergei Stanishev, president of BSP (Bulgaria), Edi Rama, mayor of Tirana and president of the Socialist Party (Albania) and with Yiannakis Omirou, president of EDEK (Cyprus).
