Blackmail and bribery charges brought against two IKA employees

Two employees of the IKA social security fund office in Karditsa, central Greece, were arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of blackmail and accepting bribes.

One 37-year-old employee was arrested for accepting 2,000 euros in marked bills. This was part of an alleged bribe of 3,000 euros the woman asked for in order not to force a 50-year-old man to pay 15,000 euros in social security contributions for builders who carried out work on his house.

Police acted after being tipped off by the man and said their investigation revealed the 37-year-old had asked for the bribe on behalf of another IKA employee, aged 46, who was also arrested.
