The weapon used to shoot dead two Golden Dawn members outside the party’s offices in northern Athens on Friday night was a Zastava pistol, police sources said on Saturday.
Twelve 9 mm cartridges were recovered from the scene at Neo Iraklio. Police said ballistic tests showed the semi-automatic gun had not been used in criminal or terrorist activity before.
The anti-terrorism squad is investigating the shooting and has taken away a motorcycle found three blocks away from Golden Dawn’s offices for forensic tests.
Skai TV quoted police sources saying that the two assailants got off their motorcycle, thought to be a Honda Varadero, approached the victims and shot them from a close distance, injuring a third man in the process.
The attackers then got back on the motorcycle and rode off, according to the police.
