Ahead of funerals, family of murdered GD member asks politicians to stay away

The funerals of the two Golden Dawn members shot dead on Friday night are to take place on Monday, with one of the families asking politicians to stay away from the service.

The parents of Giorgos Fountoulis, the 26-year-old who was gunned down outside Golden Dawn offices in northern Athens, have warned that his funeral should not become a political event.

Using words from the Neo-Nazi party’s slogan: “Blood, honor, Golden Dawn,” Fountoulis’s family made it clear that politicians from any party would not be welcome at the funeral.

“We do not want blood – our child’s blood ran onto the asphalt – nor honor – we are aware of our child’s honorable and impeachable nature,” the 26-yea-old’s parents said in a statement. “Our family does not want any politician from any party to attend the funeral.”

Fountoulis was murdered along with 22-year-old Manolis Kapelonis, whose funeral will also take place on Monday.

A third man, Alexandros Gerontas remains in a critical condition after being shot by the two assailants who opened fire at a group outside Golden Dawn’s offices in Neo Iraklio.
