Court workers call three-hour stoppage on Monday in protest at attack

Greece's courts will stop all operations on Monday from noon to the end of the 3 p.m. shift as judicial employees protest lax security at the country's courthouses following the stabbing of a magistrate's secretary in Athens on Friday.

The union representing judicial employees, ODYE, announced the action after a man stabbed the secretary of an investigating magistrate at the capital's main court complex on Evelpidon Street on Friday.

Sources said the 36-year-old woman was transferred to a hospital with serious injuries after the attack by a foreign national who managed to sneak a knife past security into the courthouse.

ODYE is calling for a review of the security measures taken at all of the country's courts so that similar incidents can be avoided in the future.
